Jeff Shi: Wolves will have a good January transfer window

Chairman Jeff Shi anticipates a successful January transfer window for Wolves – insisting signings are required for the club to compete at a higher level.

A centre-half and a midfielder are thought to be on Nuno Espirito Santo's shopping list.

And while Shi has previously stated Fosun are likely to reduce their direct investment into the team, he said on the upcoming window: "We are always ready to invest, don't worry about it.

"If we need to strengthen the squad, we have the capacity to do it – immediately, in January.

"We want to do the right deal. We understand our squad is still growing, but if we want to compete at a higher level, we need to give Nuno and the team more support."

Shi says Wolves' scouting network have been working tirelessly in an effort to find some stars.

And the club should have a proper plan of action in place in the next few weeks.

"I think maybe by the end of November, it's the time," said Shi.

"We have to review the performance of the players in the first team and review the growth of the academy boys, and it also depends hugely on the market.

"For example, in the last window, many players, with only or two seasons of playing well, were £60m, £70m or £80m.

"I feel a little bit frustrated about the market inflation, but we are still working very hard. Our scouting team are working hard around the world to find talent to help us."

Nuno has, out of choice, been working with a small squad, but Wolves have had to deal with injuries this term, with defender Willy Boly potentially out for several months after fracturing his fibula.

"We know where we are maybe a little bit weak," added Shi.

"I keep talking with Nuno about it, so I think we will have a good window in January."
